Face Lift (Rhytidoplasty)
Accomplishes
The aim of this procedure is to make the face and neck look younger by removing jowls, wrinkles and spare skin.
The skin of the face and neck is pulled upwards and backwards. At the same time, fatty deposits under the chin and along the jaw line can be removed and the muscles tightened. If indicated the cheeks can be filled out to give a more youthful look.
Bruising / Swelling
Varies with each individual - slight to moderate.
Final Result Visible
The final result can usually be seen at between 3 to 4 months. The results are permanent but ageing continues and therefore all the wrinkles and wattles eventually return.
Male Facelifting
The main difference between male and female face-lifting relates to shorter hairstyles and the denser connection between the skin and the underlying tissue. Shorter hairstyles are not as forgiving as some longer female ones, therefore precise placement of the incisions is important. The same incisions are used for both men and women.
Scarring
Normally tiny and inconspicuous.
Most facelift incisions are placed within the hairline and within natural contours in front of and behind the ear. The incision in front of the ear is positioned so that most of the scar will be virtually invisible. Sometimes the deeper tissues may also need to be repositioned in order to restore a more youthful contour to the face.
This operation can be combined with surgery to the eyes.
